The oven-baked cassata dates to the days of the Moors in Sicily, much before the creation of the traditional cassata as we know it.
It is said that an Arab called a cake he was making "qas at" while he was blending ricotta cheese and sugar. But that was actually the name of the bowl he was using to mix the ingredients.
The cassata takes its name from this misunderstanding.
